Best eyelash extensions in Singapore: how to judge for yourself.

Not a ranking and not a top ten. The criteria that separate a good set from a popular one, why a set mapped to your eye beats one picked off a catalogue, and the questions to ask before you book.

An eye-mapping sketch drawn on paper next to a client's measured lash line before an eyelash extension set at yeux by qun, Hougang, Singapore
Fig. 01 · Before any adhesive is opened, the set exists on paper: lash line divided into zones, curl and length decided per zone. Everything in this article is a way of checking whether that step happened.

People searching for the best eyelash extensions in Singapore are usually hoping someone will hand them a shortlist. We are not going to. yeux by qun is a lash studio, so a ranking written by us would be worth exactly nothing, and the honest answer is more useful anyway: the best set is not a brand or a price tier, it is a set mapped to your eye and applied one lash at a time by someone willing to tell you no. This piece teaches you to check for that yourself, in any chair, including ours.

Everything below is the checklist we use internally. We have published our own prices in it so you have one concrete reference point to compare against, but the criteria are meant to stand on their own. If they lead you to a studio five minutes from your flat instead of to Hougang, the article still did its job.

Why there is no top ten here

Most "best lash salon" lists in Singapore are one of three things: an advertorial, a scrape of Google ratings, or a blogger's own two visits. None of them measures the thing that actually decides your result, which is the individual pair of hands working on you that afternoon. A studio with eight artists can produce excellent work on Tuesday and rushed work on Saturday, and no star rating separates those two days.

The other problem is that a lash set photographs best on the day it is least trustworthy. Day one hides everything: adhesive that has not fully cured, natural lashes glued to their neighbours, weight your lashes will not carry for three weeks. The set that looks most dramatic in a studio's feed is often the one that costs the client the most lashes by the end of the cycle. So the useful skill is not picking a name off a list. It is knowing what to look at.

"A set can look incredible in photos and still have natural lashes cemented together in clumps. You only see it under a lamp, which is why it is worth knowing what to look for."

Isolation is the whole craft

If you learn only one thing from this page, learn this one. Every natural lash sits at a different point in its own growth cycle. A young lash has weeks left; the one beside it might shed in two days. Isolation means the artist separates a single natural lash out of that crowd and bonds the extension to that lash and nothing else, with a small clean gap between the adhesive and your lid.

When two or three natural lashes get bonded together, the trade calls it a stickie. It does not hurt on day one. It hurts on day nine, when the oldest lash in the clump reaches the end of its cycle and tries to shed, and cannot, because it is glued to two younger lashes that are not ready to go. It pulls them out with it, or it tugs at the follicle until it does. That is where nearly all lash damage comes from. Not from extensions as a category, and not from adhesive. From bad isolation and from weight.

You do not need training to check it. Two ways:

  • Before you leave the chair. Ask for a mirror and ask the artist to brush your lashes downward with a clean spoolie. They should separate like the teeth of a comb, each extension riding its own lash. Any two that move as one unit are stuck. A good artist will do this without being asked, because it is also how they check their own work.
  • On day two, at home. Run a clean spoolie through from base to tip. It should pass without catching. Blinking should feel like nothing. A tight, pulling or slightly sore feeling at the lash line is not "getting used to them", it is a set that needs fixing, and any studio worth returning to will want to see it.

Isolation is also why time matters. A full single-strand set is somewhere between one hundred and two hundred natural lashes per eye, each one found, separated, dipped and placed. That is roughly 75 minutes to two hours of work depending on density. It is arithmetic, not an opinion.

Mapping to your eye, not to the catalogue

This is the argument the rest of the article hangs on. A catalogue set is a shape that suited someone else's eye, photographed at a flattering angle, on a face whose proportions you cannot see. It might suit you. Nobody in the room knows yet, and the way to find out is not to point at it.

Eye mapping is the alternative, and it is dull to watch, which is probably why it is undersold. The artist measures your lash line, divides it into zones, and decides a curl and a length for each zone based on your eye and not on the trend. What they are reading: where your lash line actually sits, how much lid shows when your eyes are open and relaxed, whether the outer corner lifts or drops, where your natural lashes are already dense and where there is a gap, and how strong each lash is at the base.

At yeux, Qun trained in the eye-mapping method originating from Tokyo, where every set starts on paper, and she has applied close to 500,000 individual lashes since 2019. We are not claiming that method is the only one that works. Plenty of good artists map differently, or map in their head after enough years. The point is narrower and it is the whole test: something should be measured or drawn before anyone touches your eye. A studio that maps has already decided your set is a fit rather than a menu item. A studio that hands you a laminated card and starts gluing has decided the opposite.

What mapping changes in practice, three examples we see most often at the Hougang chair:

  • A downturned outer corner. A wispy doll-eye shape with length concentrated at the outer edge will follow the corner down and read as tired. The same client with lift built into the outer third looks awake in every photo. Same face, same price, opposite result.
  • A round eye. Lengthening the outer third stretches the shape and calms it down. Adding the same length across the middle just makes the eye rounder, which is sometimes what the client wants and should be a decision rather than an accident.
  • A hooded lid. Length without enough curl disappears under the fold, so the client pays for a set nobody can see and concludes that lashes do not suit her. Curl is doing the work here, not millimetres.

One design decision on our own menu comes from exactly this. The four Designer styles, Thai for a wispy doll-eye, Fairy for a soft cat-eye lift at the outer corner, Sunflower for an open round shape with a big-eye effect, and Manga for mixed lengths with an anime feel, are all $108. Same price, deliberately. The moment those styles are priced differently, the recommendation stops being about your eye and starts being about the till. You can apply that test to any menu you are shown, ours included.

What honest retention sounds like

You lose natural lashes every day. That is biology and it happens whether or not you have extensions. When one sheds, the extension attached to it goes with it. A set therefore thins gradually from the day it is done, and the honest conversation is about how gradually, not about whether.

Two answers should make you cautious. The first is a promise: six weeks, guaranteed, no drop-off. Nobody can promise that, and the sets that come closest to it are usually the ones with the most adhesive and the most stickies, which is not the win it sounds like. The second is a shrug: every lost lash is your fault, your pillow, your cleanser, your fringe. Both answers are ways of skipping the same conversation.

An honest answer is a range plus reasons. It sounds like: most people come back inside three weeks; yours may sit at the shorter end because your lids run oily, because you sleep on your side, because you sit under an aircon vent all day, because you swim twice a week, or because you work over a wok. Those are real variables in Singapore and a good artist raises them before you pay, not after you complain.

Removal belongs in the same conversation, because it shows you what a studio expects. A studio confident in its own retention makes leaving easy. At yeux, removal is free if the set came from us. We put that in writing because a high removal fee is a lock-in dressed up as a service, and you should know the exit price before you take the entry one. The full care routine that actually moves retention is in our lash aftercare guide.

Patch tests, hygiene, and the ability to say no

Lash adhesive is a cyanoacrylate. Most people never react to it. A small number do, and the reaction shows up as swollen lids twelve to twenty-four hours later, which is a miserable way to find out. A patch test is a few extensions at the outer corner of each eye, left for 24 to 48 hours before the full set. Not everyone needs one, but the studio should offer it, and should know when it matters more: if you have reacted to any adhesive before, if you get hay fever or eczema around the eye, if you are coming back after a bad experience elsewhere, if you have had recent eye surgery, or if you are pregnant and your body is already behaving differently.

On hygiene, the thing to watch is less dramatic than people expect. Dirty tweezers are rare. The common problem is a bottle of adhesive that has been open too long in a humid room, because it starts curing in the bottle and stops bonding properly, which shows up as a set that sheds fast for no visible reason. Asking when the bottle was opened is a very ordinary question and a working artist will answer it in a second. The rest is what you can see: fresh under-eye pads out of a packet, tools from a sealed pouch or cleaned in front of you, gloves, and enough ventilation that your eyes do not sting through the appointment.

Then the signal that outranks all of the others. Ask whether there is anything on the menu they would not do on you. An artist who says you can have whatever you like is selling. An artist who says your natural lashes cannot carry 14mm this cycle, offers 11mm now and a step up in two cycles, has just protected something you cannot buy back. Weight is the mechanism: too long, too thick, or too many fans on a lash that cannot hold them, and the lash bends, then breaks, then takes a few months to grow back. Saying no costs that artist money today. It is the clearest evidence you will get that they are thinking past today.

"The hardest sentence in this job is 'not this cycle'. Clients have often already saved the photo and told their friends. But a lash that breaks takes three to four months to come back, and no set is worth three months of a client's own lashes."

Red flags, in the order you will meet them

Some of these show up in the enquiry, before you have committed anything.

  • A quote before anyone has seen your eyes. A firm price for a specific style, given over chat, with no question about your natural lashes, is a menu talking, not an artist.
  • Time that does not add up. A dense set quoted at forty-five minutes cannot have been isolated. Either the fans are much larger than the name suggests, or several natural lashes are being picked up at once. Ask how long the slot is booked for and compare it against the density you were promised.
  • A price that only works if something is skipped. A set is mostly one artist's time. If the number is far below what that time costs, someone is absorbing the difference, and it is usually your natural lashes. Cheap is not automatically bad, but it has to be explainable.
  • No questions about your history. No one asks about allergies, medication, recent eye surgery, a lash lift you had last month, or the set you are still wearing. Those all change what can be done today.
  • Visible adhesive. A black bead at the base, or a lash line that looks like it is wearing eyeliner when you are not. Correct application leaves a bond you have to look for.
  • Lashes that move in clumps. Brushed down, any two extensions that travel together are sitting on lashes that have been glued to each other.
  • No mirror, and a fast goodbye. You should be shown the work close up, both eyes, before you stand. Being moved out of the room quickly is not efficiency.

None of these on its own proves bad work. Two or three together generally do.

One honest reference point: our own numbers

Criteria are easier to use when you have something concrete to hold them against, so here is our published lash menu. It is not offered as the correct price for Singapore, only as one studio's numbers, stated plainly so you can compare.

Set款式What it is是什么Price价钱
YY LashYY 4叶草Light density, most natural轻密度,最自然$68
Bottom Lash下睫毛Definition below the eye下眼线条感$30
Lash removal, for sets done here卸睫毛,本店做的Softened off, never tweezed软化卸除,绝不用镊子拔Free免费

Read the ladder and you can see what is actually being paid for: density and time, not glamour. The gap between YY Lash at $68 and Volume Single Strand at $88 is twenty dollars of extra work in the chair, not a different grade of client. The four Designer styles sit level at $108 for the reason given above. The whole menu with descriptions is on the lashes page, and if you want the annual arithmetic rather than the per-visit number, that is in the 2026 cost breakdown.

One more thing worth knowing before you compare studios on style names alone: the labels are invented. Every studio makes up its own vocabulary, and two sets called the same thing in two shops can be built completely differently. What is comparable is density, curl, length and time. If you want the underlying techniques untangled, that is what Classic vs Volume vs YY is for, and our longest-hold option is covered separately in Zero-Sensation Ultra-Lock lashes.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a lash set good, rather than just popular?

Three things you can check without any training. Isolation: every extension is bonded to one natural lash and nothing else. Mapping: the curl, length and weight were decided for your eye rather than copied from a catalogue photo. Weight: nothing was applied that your natural lashes cannot carry for a full growth cycle. A popular set can fail all three and still photograph well on day one.

How can I tell if my lash artist is isolating properly?

Ask for a mirror before you leave and have the artist brush your lashes downward. The lashes should separate cleanly, like the teeth of a comb, with a visible gap between the extension base and your lid. If two or three lashes move as one clump, that is a stickie. At home, a clean spoolie should pass through without snagging, and blinking should not feel tight.

Should I pick a lash set from the salon's catalogue?

Use the catalogue to show the artist what you like, then let the artist decide what your eye can actually wear. A catalogue set is a shape that suited someone else's eye. At yeux by qun, Qun trained in the eye-mapping method originating from Tokyo, where every set starts on paper, and the four Designer styles all cost $108 so that price never decides the shape.

Do I need a patch test before eyelash extensions?

Not everyone does, but the studio should offer one and should know when it matters more: if you have reacted to any adhesive before, if you get hay fever or eczema around the eye, if you are returning after a bad set, or if you have had recent eye surgery. A patch test is a few extensions at the outer corner of each eye, left for 24 to 48 hours.

Are cheap eyelash extensions in Singapore always bad?

No, but the price has to be explainable. A lash set is mostly one artist's time, so ask how long the appointment is booked for and whether that time matches the density promised. If a dense set is quoted at 45 minutes, something is being skipped. For reference, yeux by qun publishes YY Lash at $68, Classic Single Strand at $78, Volume Single Strand at $88 and any Designer style at $108.

What should I ask a lash artist before booking?

Ask who is doing your set and how long they have been lashing, how they will decide curl and length for your eyes, whether there is anything on the menu they would not do on you, whether they patch test, how long the appointment is booked for, and what refill and removal cost. An artist who answers all of those without hesitating has thought about your eyes before you sat down.
